Saoirse Ronan Joins Disney’s Snow White Pic Order of Seven

This year will be getting not one but two Snow White movies with a twist. Mirror, Mirror will be a lush and colorful slapstick family comedy while Snow White and the Huntsman will be a darker grittier version of the classic fairy tale. Now there’s seems to be some development with Disney’s long gestating Order of Seven, their own interpretation of the Snow White fairy tale. According to Variety, Saorise Ronan (Hanna) will headline the Order of Seven, playing as Olivia Sinclair, a British emigrant in 19th century Hong Kong, who seeks the protection of legendary warriors, who have become a jaded group of seven outlaws. After the reemergence of an ancient evil empress, Sinclair then helps the warriors reclaim their destiny. Disney took the whole fairy tale classic with a twist quite literally, but the project itself has been under gestation for quite some time. There doesn’t seem to be even a hint of princesses, evil witches, or deadly apples in this movie. In fact seven legendary warriors are taking the place of dwarfs. Perhaps those Snow White references will be part of the subtext, but that remains to be seen. Visual effects expert and commercial director Michael Gracey has been tapped to direct the movie. Production for the movie has been scheduled to begin in the fall.
