PM allowed to bring his car inside SC premises

SALAMABAD: The Registrar of the Supreme Court has allowed Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to bring his car inside the premises of the court when he arrives for the hearing of the contempt case today (Monday). Earlier, the Supreme Court had disallowed the prime minister from driving his car into the court premises and had asked him to park it in the parking area and walk to the courtroom where proceedings are to take place. However, PPP InformationSecretary Qamar Zaman Kaira requested Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to allow Prime Minister Gilani to bring his car into the premises of the apex court due to security concerns. He made this request to the chief justice in his capacity as PPP Information Secretary. Kaira was of the view that during the previous appearance the prime minister was allowed to bring his car into the SC premises and a similar concession should be given to him this time also, owing to increasing security concerns. Earlier, the PPP’s core committee meeting held at the PM’s House with Prime Minister Gilani in the chair discussed in detail the party’s strategy regarding the prime minister’s appearance in the Supreme Court today (Monday). The meeting decided that only senior PPP leaders would accompany the prime minister, sources said. Sources said the PPP core committee meeting is usually held at the Presidency but on Sunday, its venue was the PM’s House because President Zardari was holding a meeting with the heads of coalition partners at the Presidency.
